The story

Anatomy by miniblank («تشريح» by miniblank)

An anatomy atlas, to wear.

Anatomy by miniblank prints plates from a nineteenth-century French anatomy atlas as they were drawn: big on the back of clothing, or as posters. In sepia ink on light colours, and in bone on dark ones.

The plate The Heart from the Bourgery atlas

The Atlas.

The Traité complet de l’anatomie de l’homme, the complete treatise on the anatomy of man, is the work of the anatomist and physician Jean-Marc Bourgery, with plates drawn from dissection by Nicolas-Henri Jacob. It came out in Paris between 1831 and 1854, in eight volumes, and was finished after Bourgery’s death in 1849.

We print the plates from the scans kept by the Wellcome Collection in London, marked public domain (Public Domain Mark). We take out the spots and stains of the old paper; nothing is redrawn and nothing is added.

The plate The Brain from the Bourgery atlas

8 plates.

The heart, the bronchial tree, the spine, the thorax, the brain from above, one hemisphere opened by dissection, the bones of the hand and the pelvis. Under each, its name in Cinzel capitals and its French name in EB Garamond italic.

They are plates from an old book, shown as art: not a reference for study or practice.
