Questions

Where do the plates come from?

From the Traité complet de l’anatomie de l’homme by J.-M. Bourgery, drawn by N. H. Jacob and printed in Paris between 1831 and 1854. We print them from the scans in the Wellcome Collection, which are in the public domain.

How is it printed?

Big on the back, about 20 × 34 cm on the tee and the crewneck and 18 × 31 cm on the hoodie: sepia ink on light colours, bone ink on dark ones. The posters are 12 × 16 in, the plate in sepia on an ivory ground.

Who were Bourgery and Jacob?

Jean-Marc Bourgery was a French anatomist and physician; Nicolas-Henri Jacob drew the plates of his atlas from dissection. The book came out in Paris between 1831 and 1854.

Is anything redrawn?

No. The plates are printed from the Wellcome Collection’s scans, with the old paper’s spots and stains taken out. The caption under each is ours: its name in capitals and its French name in italic.

Can I use them to study?

They are drawings from 1831 to 1854, printed as art. For study, use your course’s own references.

What colours are the clothes?

The heavyweight tee in Ivory, White, Blossom, Chambray, Black and Midnight; the crewneck in White, Orchid, Pepper and Blue Jean; the hoodie in Bone, White, Sand and Black. Sepia ink on the light ones, bone ink on the dark ones.

Are the posters framed?

No. They are 12 × 16 in (30 × 40 cm) on thick matte paper, unframed, and sent rolled, so they fit a standard frame of that size.

Can I send it as a gift?

Yes. Enter their address at checkout and it goes straight to them, shipped free.

How do I choose my size?

Every tee, crewneck and hoodie has a table in centimetres in the size guide. The heavyweight tee and the crewneck are relaxed: take your usual size. The hoodie is cut loose: check the measures first.

Why do some sizes cost more?

The biggest sizes take more cotton. The exact price shows when you pick a size. Shipping stays free.
