The brain seen from above, the two hemispheres side by side with every fold of the cortex drawn. Drawn by N. H. Jacob for J.-M. Bourgery’s Traité complet de l’anatomie de l’homme, Paris, 1831–1854.
The print
Heavy ring-spun cotton, 207 g/m², dyed after sewing, so it comes soft and a little lived-in. Printed big on the back, about 23 × 34 cm, in sepia ink on light colours and bone ink on dark ones, captioned THE BRAIN in capitals, with its French name, Cerveau. The plate is in the public domain, printed from the scan in the Wellcome Collection.
