The airway from the larynx down: the trachea with its rings of cartilage, dividing into the two main bronchi and branching again and again into both lungs. Drawn by N. H. Jacob for J.-M. Bourgery’s Traité complet de l’anatomie de l’homme, Paris, 1831–1854.
The print
Heavy ring-spun cotton, 207 g/m², dyed after sewing, so it comes soft and a little lived-in. Printed big on the back, about 24 × 34 cm, in sepia ink on light colours and bone ink on dark ones, captioned THE BRONCHIAL TREE in capitals, with its French name, Arbre bronchique. The plate is in the public domain, printed from the scan in the Wellcome Collection.
